About Skendleby
Skendleby is a small village and parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire.
It is mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as having a church and 36 households with the Lord
of the Manor being Gilbert de Gant. Come the reign of Elizabeth l, the number of
household’s had decreased to 27. The census of 2021 records a population of 160.
The Blacksmith Arms serves good quality meals and Sunday lunches. It is located in the
centre of the village and is within stumbling distance of the 13th century Church of St Peter
and St Paul. Restored in 1876 it features a large and much-admired stained-glass west
window, one of only two Ascension windows in the deanery. A long fund-raising campaign
saw the roof of the church completely renewed in 2012.
Skendleby Hall is a Grade ll Country Manor House, built 250 years ago and is now licensed for
wedding ceremonies, offering a luxury self-catering venue for large groups,
family celebrations and corporate events.
